Hence it wouldn't be a nice idea to spend an extra buck on the item which would either be passed on to the next brother or sister or go away in charity. By knowing the right kind of size, you should go to the market and buy a size a bit larger than the actual size.

Also make sure you don't get carried away with the labels too. Most of the labels which talk about a particular size might not be the same in some other brand too. Hence you should be very cautious while selecting the appropriate size for your kid. Boys clothing has numerous designs and styles to choose from and you should be a smart buyer.

My grandmother was a seamstress. She would sew beautiful clothes and accessories for my Barbie doll collection. I had a suitcase full of her handmade creations and the kids in the neighborhood would come over so we could dress the dolls. I loved selecting the fabrics and picking out dress styles. Although I didn't realize it at the time, the clothes she made for my dolls were better quality than anything I could buy in a store.

If you're just starting out in sewing, and have already made a couple of garments, I recommend reading this book as an introduction to altering clothes to make them fit and look better. I had a couple pairs of jeans that were in dire need of repair. Both of them had inner pockets with holes in, meaning every time I forgot I had holes in my pockets, and went to put my keys in them, I would feel a cold metallic sensation slowly rubbing down my leg, followed by the "clash" of keys hitting the floor . Not only that, but I had a bought a cheap pair of smart trousers which were a little too long for me. My thinking had been that I could just alter the length to fit me, rather than finding a more expensive "in-stock" pair of trousers.

Remember to take out an equal amount from both sides to keep the symmetry of the garment. Take the old stitching out and press the new seams open.
With dresses, you can reattach the waistline seam following the original stitch line after restitching the side seams. For pants and skirts, reattach the band as before, after the waistband sides are taken in.

Others were far more capable than I.

When you shop for the perfect prom dress and you find the gorgeous size 2 gown that would be perfect for you if it wasn’t for the fact you wear a size 10, you have a few options. First, you can choose to attempt to make some prom dress alterations in hopes of fitting into the gorgeous gown. Generally, if you are within 1 to 3 sizes, this is possible, although it’s not necessarily the best route. Prom dress alterations can be made using the fabric that is available in the seam allowances to make the dress a larger size. Using those same seams, prom dresses can be made smaller. When making these changes, it is best to start with a gown that is too large. It is much easier to remove fabric than it is to try to let some out.
